‘Gay Actors Must Make A Choice’

Mad MenMad Men actor Bryan Batt, who plays Salvatore Romano on the critically acclaimed series, has said that gay actors must make a choice between being open about their sexuality or success in their career.

Mad MenMad Men actor Bryan Batt has spoken out about the choice facing actors who must choose between being open about their sexuality or success in their careers. The actor plays closet homosexual Salvatore Romano on the critically acclaimed drama and is one of the few openly gay actors.

“If you are openly gay, the masses can be asses and sometimes can’t get past the fact that that’s how someone lives their private life. Some actors have to make a choice. If they have the opportunity to become these huge megastars, making millions and millions of dollars and have to live a lie, that’s a choice they have to make. Not that I would ever be a big star, but I just had to live my life the way I saw fit.” – Bryan Batt speaking to the Huffington Post

Last year gay actor Rupert Everett advised young gay actors to remain in the closet if they wanted to succeed in Hollywood. Last week Sean Hayes, who played Jack in the NBC sitcom Will and Grace, confirmed he was gay having previously dodged the question when it was raised in interviews. His reluctance to confirm his sexuality one way or the other had drawn criticisms from some.
