Stephen Fry has attacked the Independent On Sunday’s Pink List for its criticisms of the Pineapple Studios star Louie Spence. The Sunday paper published its annual 100 top gay influential people in the UK in which Fry, who is openly gay, came third. Alongside the list the paper also published a “rogue” list of high-profile gay men such as George Michael and Louie Spence who shot to fame on Sky One’s Pineapple Studios. Fry attacked the papers “insulting” and sneering at” the camp TV personality.

The panel of judges who decided upon the 100 top list included Ben Bradshaw, Clare Balding and Ben Summerskill of the lobby group Stonewall. In Fry’s initial criticisms of the list he was critical of the judges write up of Louie Spence but later withdrew the criticisms and aimed then at the Independent on Sunday when it was made clear one of their journalists wrote the write-up of Spence.
