Vic Reeves cast in new BBC Morecambe and Wise Drama

Actor and comedian Jim Moir, better known as his comedy creation Vic Reeves, has been cast in a new BBC drama about Morecambe and Wise.

Actor and comedian Vic Reeves has been cast in a new BBC drama about Morecambe and Wise. The new feature-length BBC Two drama has been conceived by Victoria Wood who will also star in the film alongside Reeves.

While most might expect Reeves to be playing the role of Eric Morecambe he will instead be playing Eric’s father, George. Victoria Wood will play Sadie, Eric’s mother. The BBC Two drama will chart the duo’s rise from childhood variety performers to their early days in television – covering the years 1930 to 1954.

The drama has been written by Peter Bowker, whose previous credits include Occupation and Blackpool.

The cast will also include Emer Kenny who currently plays Zsa Zsa Carter in EastEnders and appeared in the first season of its spin-off E:20. Kenny also wrote part of the first run of the teen-based spin-off and has continued in her writing role for the new series. Bryan Dick, who most recently appeared in BBC One drama All the Small Things, will play Ernie Wise with Daniel Rigby, who appeared in BBC One’s period drama Lilies, portraying Eric Morecambe. Reece Shearsmith will also appear in the new drama.

The families of both Morecambe and Wise are involved with the drama.
