John Barrowman wins Strictly Christmas Special

John BarrowmanActor and entertainer John Barrowman has won the Christmas Strictly Come Dancing Special beating the likes of Vince Cable and June Brown to win the festive competition.

John BarrowmanJohn Barrowman was the winner of last night’s Christmas Strictly Come Dancing Special on BBC One. The festive edition of the hugely popular entertainment show saw five contestants compete against each other to be crowned the winner; the Judges and the studio audience vote for the winner with the viewing public not participating in voting.

The festive special saw Barrowman compete against EastEnders actress June Brown, presenter Fern Britton, comedian and impersonator Ronni Ancona and Business Secretary Vince Cable. Barrowman, a star of the West End, perhaps had an unfair advantage over the other contestants but the judges lavished praised on his Quick Step performed with Kristina Rihanoff. The entertainer, who has sat on the judging panel of Any Dream Will Do/How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, admitted it was “un-nerving” to be in front of the judges.

Business Secretary Vince Cable who performed a foxtrot with Erin Boag was also praised by the Judges. Cable has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this week when he was secretly recorded by undercover reporters for The Daily Telegraph and Cable isn’t popular with students at the moment for his betrayal of them over tuition fees. EastEnders actress June Brown was described as a “true legend” by judge Alesha Dixon. In fact while there were criticisms of all the performances by the judges the comments by the panel were mostly positive to all five celebrities who performed. Following the special Gavin Henson, Scott Maslen, Pamela Stephenson, Matt Baker and Kara Tointon, stars of Strictly Come Dancing 2010, performed a dance routine.

John Barrowman will shortly begin filming on the next series of Torchwood, the Doctor Who spin-off. Torchwood: The New World begins production in Los Angeles in January with Barrowman reprising his role of bisexual Captain Jack Harkness alongside Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper.
