The historical drama charts the reign of King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) and the final season chronicles his marriage to Katherine Howard (Tamzin Merchant) and Katherine Parr (Joely Richardson). The return of The Tudors to BBC Two was seen by 2 million viewers which is slightly higher than the 1.8 million average for its third season.
Showtime’s successor to The Tudors is new historical drama The Borgias which revolves around the notorious Italian criminal family in the Renaissance. In the UK the rights to The Borgias have been snapped up by Sky Atlantic.
