Amanda Burton quits Waterloo Road

Amanda Burton has quit Waterloo Road.

The Sun reports that the actress has already filmed her final scenes as headteacher Karen Fisher.

While no official reason has been given for her departure from the series, the tabloid suggests that Burton living in London and the series being filmed in Rochdale was a factor.

The former Silent Witness star joined the BBC One school drama last year. Karen appeared from the start of series six in September 2010, replacing Rachel Mason (Eva Pope) who left at the end of series five.

Karen’s storylines initially revolved around the disappearance of her daughter Bex. She had been missing for some time and this had taken its toll on the Fisher family. Karen’s husband Charlie found comfort with another woman, their other daughter Jess was off the rails and son Harry eventually developed bulimia.

Bex resurfaced towards the end of the first half of series six, but Karen then had to deal with the news that she had been living under the influence of an evil pimp. Karen’s departure is expected to play out on screen at the end of the first block of series 7 episodes. These will air on BBC One from next week.
