Joe McElderry: 'I Just Hope Simon Cowell is watching'
X Factor winner turned Popstar to Operastar contestant Joe McElderry has said he hopes Simon Cowell will be watching tomorrow night’s finale of the singing competition.
McElderry is in the finale against Bucks Fizz singer, turned presenter, Cheryl Baker and the odds are in his favour to win. Joe McElderry won The X Factor in 2009 beating Olly Murs and Stacey Solomon and while he initially found success in the charts he later struggled and was dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label. Now McElderry has bounced back appearing on Popstar to Operastar and signing a new record deal.
“I just hope Simon Cowell is watching. Maybe he can tune in on Sunday and see what he’s missed!” – Joe McElderry speaking to TV Biz.
The ITV show ends tomorrow night as Cheryl Baker and McElderry battle it out. The series, fronted by Myleene Klass, has struggled in the ratings once more and a question mark hangs over its future. Fans of the show have criticised the new slot – Sunday evenings – and the little publicity for the series.
McElderry promised his fans they haven’t heard the last of him and he’ll be busy regardless of who wins tomorrow evening. “I had a very exciting meeting last weekend, I’m going to be very busy over the next couple of weeks, put it that way.”
Popstar to Operastar, ITV1 at 8pm tomorrow evening (Sunday 10th July)
