Kate Winslet: ‘Makes no difference’ if her children are gay or straight

{jcomments off}Hollywood actress Kate Winslet has said it “makes no difference” to her whether her children are gay or straight.

The British actress, who has a long list of Hollywood films to her name, made the comments during an interview with V magazine. The actress also revealed a conversation she had with her son in which she told him she didn’t care if he had a girlfriend or boyfriend in the future.

“Joe turns to me the other day and says: ‘One day, I will have a girlfriend. But I might have a boyfriend. If I’m gay.’ He’s seven! And I said: ‘You might have a girlfriend or a boyfriend, darling.’ And he said: ‘Which would you prefer?’ And I said: ‘My love, that would be entirely up to you, and it doesn’t make any difference to me.’ – Kate Winslet in V magazine.

The actress lives with her children in New York which recently legalised gay marriage, a move described by openly gay actor George Takei as a “human rights victory” Actress Anne Hathaway recently spoke of her Dark Seasonsupport for gay marriage and her hope that other American states follow New York’s lead.

Kate Winslet recently made headlines for helping to rescue the mother of Richard Branson following a fire at a Caribbean home belonging to the businessman. The actress is more accustomed though to making headlines through the movies she has starred in such as Titanic, Revolutionary Road, The Holiday, Flushed Away, Iris and Enigma. Some of Winslet’s earliest roles were on television such as in the 1990 children’s drama Dark Season (penned by Russell T. Davies) and medical drama Casualty which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
