ABC to remake Suburban Shootout
ABC is reportedly developing a remake of the British comedy Suburban Shootout.
It is not the first attempt at remaking the British series for an American audience – HBO were working on a remake a few years ago. HBO ordered a pilot written by Michelle Ashford and directed by Barry Sonnenfield.
Deadline reports that ABC are now developing their own remake of Suburban Shootout. The site reports that Bryan Balasco will write an hour-long adaptation of the British series.
Suburban Shootout ran for two seasons on Channel Five in the UK and starred Anna Chancellor, Felicity Montagu, Emma Kennedy, Rachael Blake and Amelia Bullmore.
It was described as a “British Desperate Housewives” and was well received by critics. However, after ratings for the second season were disappointingly low the comedy was axed. In recent years several British shows have been remade for American audiences with varying levels of success; remakes of Shameless and Being Human have worked while Life on Mars and Free Agents have flopped.
