Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley facing Daybreak axe?

Christine Bleakley and Adrian ChilesTabloid reports once again claim that Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles are set to be axed from struggling Daybreak.

The Mirror is once again claiming that the two presenters, along with Kate Garraway, are facing the axe as bosses attempt to turn around the fortunes of Daybreak. Garrway was part of the GMTV line-up which Daybreak replaced when it launched in on the 3rd September 2010. Despite much hype from ITV the breakfast programme failed to take-off with viewers who opt for BBC Breakfast instead – poor ratings for Daybreak have prompted numerous reports of revamps and axings.

The Mirror claims that new bosses Karl Newton and David Kermode are hoping to boost ratings by introducing new presenters and changing the line-up of current presenters. The tabloid newspaper claims that Dan Lobb, who was part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up but was quickly voted out of the competition, could be paired up with former Sky News host Helen Fospero. Meanwhile once again it claims that Chiles, Bleakley and Garraway will be ditched though an ITV spokesperson merely told the tabloid ‘Daybreak is still in the process of transitioning into the daytime department. We are continuing to develop the show.’

Chiles and Bleakley both joined Daybreak from the BBC where they fronted the evening magazine programme The One Show. ITV bosses hoped they would bring the same kind of “ratings magic” to Daybreak that they enjoyed with the BBC One show. However, the failure of Daybreak to take off with audiences has, by some, been put down to the two presenters. As well as fronting the breakfast programmes Chiles is also the face of ITV’s football coverage as well as That Sunday Night Show.
