Sky Living orders more Steps Reunion

Sky LivingSky Living is bringing back its Steps Reunion show for a second series; following the 1990s pop band as they tour the country and deal with being back together and all the ups and downs of the reunion.

The first series of Steps Reunion was a ratings and critical success for Sky Living and helped to propel 90s pop band Steps back into the charts. It’s hardly surprising then that the press are mooting similar reunions for S Club 7 and All Saints.

Sky Living has ordered a second series following Claire, Faye, H, Lee and Lisa through the traumas, tantrums and up and down’s as they tour the country. Below is the press release.

It will be tears, tantrums and far too much fake tan as ITV Studios follow the band on their big tour

The Guardian called it the most gripping television of the year. Ricky Gervais stopped everything to watch it. And the Sky Living audience were transfixed by a feud so deep it had simmered for 10 years and finally boiled over the moment Steps reunited for one more shot at chart stardom.

So we are thrilled to announce that Claire, Faye, H, Lee and Lisa will be back on Sky Living in the spring. For STEPS REUNION (working title) Sky Living will follow them exclusively as they rehearse, recriminate and rub salt in old wounds in the run up to their sell out 22 date UK tour.

With unprecedented access to the group Sky customers will be able to share the groups every dance class, vocal session and costume fitting with the pressure on for the biggest comeback tour of the decade. Their lives have moved on in the 11 years since the acrimonious split and we get an insight into their domestic lives too.

In the last series, Sky Living followed the fractious meetings and tension inside the recording studio, as the essential 90s pop group came together for the first time in a 10 years to re-release their greatest hits album. The explosive series launch was the highest rated unscripted series on Living in 2011 with 1.3m viewers tuning in each week. Their album went gold, as the greatest hits sold an astounding 100,000 in just four weeks.

STEPS REUNION (working title) was commissioned by Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment at Sky Sadia Butt. The series is Executive Produced by Michael Kelpie, Ed Taylor & Phil Mount for ITV Studios. Series producer is Kevin Lane.

Currently in production, the series will air in Spring 2012 and is part of Sky’s commitment to increase its investment in original British content by 50% over the next three years. By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels. This commitment follows the success of home-grown content such as entertainment hits including: Got To Dance and Four Weddings, dramas Bedlam, Mad Dogs and Treasure Island, and the BAFTA-winning documentary Flying Monsters 3D.

Jane Johnson, Director of Sky Living said: “We were all hooked on Steps Reunion as we watched the band talk candidly about one of the biggest pop fall-outs in recent history. So we’re thrilled to be giving our customers the opportunity to follow them on the next leg of their journey – their huge come-back tour. The twists and turns as they balance intense rehearsals with their busy family lives promise to be equally compelling. The most exciting pop comeback of the decade will be played out this spring on Sky Living!”
