Big Bang Theory beats American Idol in ratings battle

The Big Bang TheoryCBS comedy The Big Bang Theory managed to beat Fox‘s American Idol in the ratings battle last night.

The two shows aired opposite each other at 8pm and the CBS comedy managed to pull ahead of American Idol for the half hour they were head to head. The Big Bang Theory pulled in 16.1 million viewers with a 5.2 18-49 rating compared with American Idol’s 15.3 million viewers and 4.4 rating. However, CBS did fall behind at 8.30pm with comedy Rob which had 10.6 million viewers and a 3.0 18-49 rating. Elsewhere at 8pm last night 30 Rock on NBC had 3.7 million viewers scoring a 1.5 ratingĀ  followed by Parks & Recreation with 3.4 million and a 1.7 rating. A repeat of supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries drew 1.3 million viewers to The CW with an 18-49 rating of 0.5 while Wipeout on ABC had 4.9 million and a 1.5 rating.

At 9pm Person of Interest on CBS continued with 14.4 million viewers with a 3.1 rating which Grey’s Anatomy on ABC also had but in terms of total viewers had 8.9 million viewers. Comedy The Office on NBC was seen by 4.9 million viewers with a 2.6 rating followed by Up All Night with 3.4 million viewers and a 1.8 rating. A repeat of Supernatural of The CW had 900,000 viewers and just a 0.3 rating while The Finder on Fox had 6.2 million viewers and a 2.0 rating.

At 10pm medical drama Private Practice attracted 6.4 million viewers with a 2.2 rating, The Mentalist on CBS had 13.1 million viewers with a 2.5 rating and a repeat of Grimm on NBC had just 2.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.
