Prisoners' Wives penultimate episode seen by 4 million viewers

Polly WalkerBBC One drama Prisoners’ Wives continued last night with 4 million viewers but it was beaten by Big Fat Gypsy Weddings on Channel Four.

The BBC One drama has been a modest ratings puller for the channel but has drawn critical praise especially from the Radio Times‘ Alison Graham who said the series deserved a second season. According to overnight ratings Prisoners’ Wives penultimate episode drew 4 million viewers. It was beaten at 9pm though by Channel Four’s Big Fat Gypsy Weddings which had 4.2 million viewers with a further 1 million watching an hour later via the time-shift channel.

Elsewhere at 9pm last night The Vampire Diaries returned to ITV2 for new episodes beginning with The New Deal, the mid-season premier. The episode was seen by 390,000 viewers with an additional 115,000 watching an hour-later on the time-shift channel. Dana Delany drama Body of Proof on Channel Five continued to rate relatively well for the broadcaster with 1.4 million viewers while Horizon on BBC Two drew 2.9 million viewers for ‘The Truth about Exercise‘.
