Joe McElderryJoe McElderry, last year’s winner of the X Factor, has defended his former mentor Cheryl Cole over her decision not to put Gamu Nhengu through to the live shows. The singer performed his new single, Ambitions, on The X Factor on Sunday evening for the first results show of 2010. 

“I love Cheryl and we still speak quite a bit. I thought Treyc was fantastic on Saturday night and gave a real, diva-esque performance. Totally Tina Turner! All of Cheryl’s girls gave good performances and redeemed her decision to send them through, not Gamu, in the first place” – Joe McElderry quoted in The Mirror 

According to reports McElderry is on-track to reach the Number One spot with Ambitions – The Mirror claims he is a mere 400 copies away from reaching the prestigious spot.
