New cast to mark first year of ‘new’ Crossroads

Crossroads celebrated one year back on ITV by announcing that it’ll be adding more cast to the soap.

A new Head Of Laundry will replace the retiring Kathy Staff who plays Doris Luke, as well as new hotel staff, new guests will get a more of a starring role.

It’s all part of Carlton Television’s attempt to boost ratings on the failing soap which has been dogged by a number of continuity errors linking it with the previous series.

Original Crossroads fans were far from impressed with the ditching of the mainstay of the series Jane Rossington, who played Jill Chance. Tony Adams, who plays Adam Chance has also seen his character turn into a murderer. Something Adam of old never was, according to long-term viewers.

The new faces are said to be ex-stars of Coronation Street, This Life and Minder.

The original Crossroads ran from 1964 to 1988 and was rarely out of the ITV Top Ten programmes, and occasionally was the most watched programme on British TV, an amazing feat for a daytime cheap filler soap opera. This popularity has something ITV has longed for, however failure to make Crossroads ‘Crossroads’ has left old fans turning off and new viewers unimpressed.
