Corrie defends Saddleworth Moor scenes

Coronation Street has defended its decision to film scenes at the site of the Moors murders.

BBC News reports that upcoming scenes in the ITV saga will see Sally Webster (Sally Whittaker) and daughter Rosie (Helen Flanagan) stranded on Saddleworth Moor after a breakdown.

The sadistic Myra Hindley and Ian Brady used the location as a burial site in the 1960s. Three of their victims have been excavated on the site while a fourth, Keith Bennett, is believed to still be buried there.

“This storyline bears no resemblance to the awful tragedy of the Moors murders. Rosie is never in any danger. She is with her own mother, who is taking her to boarding school, not specifically to the moors.” – ITV

However, Winnie Johnson, who is the mother of Keith Bennett, blasted the idea as ‘sick’.

“Anyone who’s human can see they shouldn’t do a story like that.” – Johnson
