Controversial story for The Bill?
A tabloid report claims that the producers of The Bill are planning a potentially controversial storyline for the long running cop drama.
According to the Daily Star, which is hardly the most reliable of sources, the producers of The Bill are planning a storyline highly likely to court controversy – if it goes ahead. According to the tabloid rag producers a planning a James Bulger style storyline where a young child is killed by a slightly older one. Toddler James Bugler was murdered in the early 90’s by two boys who were nearing their teens. The murder sparked outrage amongst the press and public and the murderers release several years ago also sparked anger.
Now the Daily Star claims that The Bill producers are lining up a similar story for the cop drama, according to the paper it would air in October but did not reveal anything else. It does seem that such a storyline could be in the pipeline but is likely to be revised if there is great opposition to the storyline. It’s not the first time The Bill has sparked controversy with its storylines. In 2002 an on-screen kiss between PC Luke Aston (Scott Neal) and Sergeant Craig Gilmore (Hywel Simons) caused some complaints and was the first gay kiss between uniformed officers seen on British television screens. Just a few years later there was a bigger outcry when it was revealed that PC Gabriel Kent (Todd Carty) would enter into a relationship with his mother, Sergeant June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin), however it was later revealed that Gabriel was infact an imposter and not related to June. Never the less the storyline caused a lot of controversy and caused many fans to stop watching the drama.
