Russell T Davies ‘Replacement’ Announced
Current Who writer Steven Moffat is to replace Doctor Who exec Russell T Davis the BBC confirmed today. Moffat, who is credited by some fans as writing some of the best Who episodes in the re-vamped series, will take over in 2010, after Davies rounds up his run in charge with a number of special episodes in 2009.
Davies has over seen the revived series since its return to BBC One in 2005. “I love Doctor Who and I love the old Doctor Who. But, even with all that love, you have to admit that the name of the programme had become a joke and its reputation had become a cheap joke at that – you know, rubber monsters and shaky sets.” Davies said in 2005. Doctor who originally aired between 1963 and 1989 and became famous for its low budgets and low tech space dramas. Davies totally transformed the show, ditching the cheap props and costumes – opting for the latest computer graphics to bring the aliens to life.
Earlier this month Moffatt was awarded the “Best Writer Bafta” for the series three episode, Blink.
