Off Screen Departure For Mainstay Bill Character
It has been well documented that actor Jeff Stewart has had some personal problems of late, which resulted in a breakdown earlier in the year and on set argument with a director.
The Bill bosses took the decision to axe his character, Reg Hollis despite the fact that the character has been with the drama since its first season, way back in 1984. Last week it was revealed on the show that Reg Hollis had decided to quit the police following the death of another character, Emma Keane.
The quick reference was the only mention of the character’s disappearance and a slight insult really considering the long time the character, and actor, has been apart of the show.
An off-screen departure and a barely mentioned one at that. It also seems odd that the character would depart over the death of a colleague he barely knew when so many other colleagues, who he was better acquainted with, have been killed over the years – especially the more recent years.
It just seems a shame that the producers couldn’t have come up with a better departure story for the character even if it was still an off-screen departure.
