Shatner Angry of ‘Wedding Snub’
Star Trek actor William Shatner has attacked his co-star, George Takei, for not inviting him to his wedding.
In a video blog Shatner said he did not understand why George Takei still held a grudge against him.
Earlier this year George Takei married his long-term partner, Brad Altman, and several of Takei’s Trek co-stars were there, such as Nichelle Nicholas and Walter Koenig but William Shatner was not present at the service.
Shatner has now attacked his former co-star on Star Trek over the ‘wedding snub’. In a video message Shatner said “The whole thing makes me feel badly. Poor man, it’s so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don’t know what his original thing about me was, I have no idea.”
It’s something of an open secret amongst Star Trek fans that William Shatner is not well liked by several of his co-stars on the original 60’s series and subsequent film franchise. Shatner himself admitted, in his autobiography, that several of his former co-stars have told him that they dislike him. In this video blog Shatner spoke of Takei’s dislike of him.
“I literally don’t know him – I didn’t know him very well on the series, but he’s continued to speak badly of me all these years. You’d think there would be an epiphany at some point where he’d say – as he and I don’t have many years left in this world – ‘I wish him well’, but instead what he does is makes a big deal about not inviting me to his wedding.”

However, George Takei has hit back at William Shatner and claimed that the actor was invited to his wedding but Shatner did not RSVP.
Speaking about Shatner’s video blog, Takei said ‘”It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend,” Takei spoke about Shatner’s comments during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Also during the interview Takei dismissed Shatner’s claims that he hardly knew Takei.
“We’ve done six movies together, three seasons of television and been doing Star Trek conventions together for the last 40-plus years – yes I guess he doesn’t know us. By my sending an invitation to him was burying the hatchet – we keep reaching out and he takes it and twists it and turns it into something that’s ugly” (George Takei speaking on Entertainment Tonight)
Despite this latest spat between Shatner and Takei, Takei said he’ll offer Shatner the olive branch by inviting him to join the fight to defeat Proposition 8 in California. Proposition 8 is a proposed amendment to ban same sex couples marrying in California.
Several high-profile faces, such as Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg, have already come against out Proposition 8 and have donated money to the fight against it.
