Last Countdown for Carol Vorderman
Carol Vorderman has recorded her final edition of Countdown after 26 years on the quiz show.
Vorderman’s last outing on the popular daytime quiz show will also be current host Des O’Connor’s last too as he announced his departure from the show earlier in the year.
The search to replace O’Connor as main host is still ongoing and name after name has been connected to the role but as yet there has been no confirmed replacement for the host. Vorderman is leaving the quiz show after producers asked her to take a 90% pay cut. Her departure was greeted with outcry by fans of the show and tabloids. A search to replace her is also underway and early on Myleene Klass was tipped for the role but the singer turned presenter reportedly declined the job.
The final Countdown to feature Vorderman and O’Connor will air on December 12th and a special tribute episode has also been recorded and will be hosted by Gyles Brandreth. The one-off celebration of Carol’s time on the Channel 4 show will include bloopers, interviews and special guests.
Carol is best remembered for her years on the production alongside the late Richard Whiteley. Countdown is made in Leeds at the Yorkshire Television studios of ITV for Channel 4, where it has been based since its launch in 1982.
“It’s a great shame Carol has stopped playing around with cardboard numbers and electronic numbers, but even Carol Smilie had to leave Wheel of Fortune eventually.” – TV Critic Vivian Summers.
The late Richard Whiteley was hugely popular as host of Yorkshire TV’s Calendar News as well as Countdown.
