GMTV announces new presenters

The New Year will see two new faces on GMTV, replacing anchor Fiona Phillips and weather presenter Andrea McLean the breakfast station have announced.

GMTV have revealed their replacements for much disliked main host Fiona Phillips and departing weather presenter Andrea McLean.

It seems the recent scandal-hit breakfast station is looking for more depth and authority in its new year line up with the arrival of Sky News journalist, Emma Crosby. Crosby will front GMTV Today – along with the established team of Kate Garraway, Ben Shepherd and Andrew Castle – from January.

Emma, 31, who has worked at Sky News as a business reporter and news presenter is one of the youngest anchors at the broadcaster, and it seems GMTV are also trying for a younger look.

In a GMTV statement, she said she was “absolutely thrilled” by her new role. “I am very excited to be joining Britain’s leading breakfast programme and working alongside Kate Garraway, who is a great talent.”

Crosby began her career as a producer at BBC News 24 before becoming a newsreader on London’s LBC. In 1999 she switched to The Money Channel as a reporter and news anchor before joining ITV in 2001 as a reporter for the local news in London.

The outlook on the weather front also looks bright as Kirsty McCabe will replace Andrea McLean as breakfast forecaster. Kirsty, 33, joined the BBC Weather team in September 2003 and currently presents across BBC television and radio channels.

Andrea quit GMTV after proving to be a popular host on ITV’s Loose Women chat show, she had been with the breakfast station for eleven years. Meanwhile Fiona Phillips, who announced her departure in September after fifteen years on the show, will continue to work as a DJ for Smooth Radio.
