New Torchwood toned down?

Lead star of Torchwood, John Barrowman, has claimed the third series of the popular Sci Fi series will be toned down due, for the American market, as the show is popular stateside.

John Barrowman has claimed the third series of his Doctor Who spin-off series, Torchwood, will be toned down due to the show’s stateside popularity. The toning down in content will allow the show to be sold to America without heavy edits being made to the episodes. Barrowman made the claims regarding the upcoming third series of Torchwood during an interview with The People.

 

“We’re not swearing or doing anything close to the bone because it’s been a huge success in the US and the networks won’t accept it with all that stuff in it. We’re doing everything so it doesn’t have to be heavily edited for the US” John Barrowman speaking to The People.

The first season of Torchwood, which first aired on BBC Three, was criticised by some for the swearing and sex scenes contained with the episodes. The second season, which moved to BBC Two, was toned down somewhat in content with less swearing present. The third season of Torchwood, which will air on BBC One, is seemingly continuing that trend of down-toning. Torchwood has proved very popular stateside drawing record ratings for BBC America. The series will return for a five-part run on BBC One in the spring.
