New characters for River City

River City is set to welcome three new characters.

Acclaimed Scots actor Ewan Stewart joins the cast of the Scottich saga, alongside fellow new cast members Frances Grey and Samia Rida.

“While the girls make a great first impression in Shieldinch, Daniel discovers that not everyone is delighted to see his face again.” – Ewan Stewart

Stewart plays Daniel McKee, who has served time in prison for culpable homicide and returns home to Shieldinch to rebuild his life, building a base in the community to help troubled youths. His wife Marianne (Grey) is a psychiatrist who met her husband as a result of treating him while he was in prison. Marianne sets up a practice in the surgery, working alongside her best pal Dr Sammi Amira (Rida).

“It’s fantastic to be back working with Ewan Stewart again, as we starred in The Key together. I’m also really enjoying filming in Scotland again.” – Frances Grey

The three newbies will make their first appearance on screen at the end of December, where Sammi’s fiancé is killed by a car driven by Ewan Murdoch (Chris Brazier) in an explosive Hogmanay hit-and-run storyline.

“Sammi’s life gets very complicated after arriving in Shieldinch. After losing her fiancé Ben, she becomes romantically involved with Ewan Murdoch, little realising that he was the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.” – Samia Rida

River City is broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 8.00pm on BBC One Scotland. It can also be viewed on Sky channel 971.
