The Royle Family to return?

The Royle FamilyPress reports claim that BBC comedy series The Royle Family could return for more episodes following its successful Christmas Day outing.

 

 

The Royal FamilyAccording to an article in The Mirror, The Royle Family, could return for at least two more specials. The comedy series, written by co-stars Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash, have agreed “in principle” to write at least two more episodes.

 

“We billed this year’s special as a one-off but Caroline has agreed in principle a deal to create more new specials for next year and the year after,” BBC insider speaking to The Mirror

 

The Christmas Day special of The Royle Family pulled in nearly ten million viewers and was the fourth most watched programme of the day. Rumours have been circulating for some time that the BBC were considering reviving the series depending on the success of the Christmas Day episode. The Royle Family originally ran for three seasons in the late 90’s and starred Ricky Tomlinson, Sue Johnston, Caroline Aherne, Craig Cash, Ralf Little and Liz Smith. The comedy returned in 2006 for a one-off special which killed off Liz Smith’s character, Nana.
