A witty comment from nok32uk on TV Forum: “Now see, I don’t want them going too OTT on this, I say, I don’t want them going too OTT”
While the members of Digital Spy’s soap forum haven’t – on the whole – been that favorable towards the news.
“As if that would happen in real life! I’m sorry, but it sounds ridiculous. The character of Graham is annoying and not funny. If this was April Fools Day I’d think we were being had.” Commented LittleSarah
While Ljld1says: “I personally watch it for a bit of escapism and Blanches one liners. I’m glad they are doing a fun storyline, who wants to watch other people’s problems all the time in soaps?”
While we received many simple replies which just stated such words as “absolutely ridiculous” and Tony Washington summed up most of the readers views here: “What has happened to Coronation Street? They always used to do sitcom-esq comedy, but everything now just seems to have to be even more over the top than ever before. This makes the pantomime that is Emmerdale look tame in comparison.”
And Emma L adds: “Corrie is not above criticism, but the writers clearly think they are. They seem to take their viewers as mugs. Maybe they are? It seems everyone watches EastEnders at Christmas because they know they’ll get a good storyline. Note to Corrie: If I want to watch a sitcom I’ll watch one. Let me know when you return to being a serial.”
Janet2005 suggests that this “ridiculous storyline” will be just another in a “long line of over the top stupid sub-plots” that we’ve come to loath over the past few years. “Corrie is supposed to be a portrayal of real life in the north of England, not be slapstick Charlie Chaplin.”
