Classic Who Dalek Operator Dies

logoJohn Scott Martin, one of the Dalek operators in the original series of Doctor Who, has passed away at the age of 82.

The Stage newspaper is reporting that actor John Scott Martin passed away earlier this month at the age of 82. The paper reports that Scott Martin passed away on the 6th of January. His daughter, Catriona, has written a obituary piece for The Stage newspaper outlining her father’s career.

John Scott Martin is probably best known to Doctor Who fans for his work on the original series in which he most frequently worked as a Dalek operator. He first worked on the series as a Dalek operator for the 1965 story The Chase and continued in the role until the final Dalek story of the original series, Remembrance of the Daleks. Aside from working as a Dalek operator on the series the actor also had minor roles in the series.

Outside the world of Doctor Who the actor appeared in many shows such as Upstairs Downstairs, Angels, Softly Softly, The Tripods, Quatermass and the Pitt and the comedy series Mine All Mine which was written by current Doctor Who writer, and executive producer, Russell T. Davies.
