Ex-Neighbours actress Holly Valance attacks soap

Former Neighbours actress Holly Valance has branded the soap that launched her career as “rubbish”.

Singer and actress Holly Valance has branded the soap that launched her career, Neighbours, as “rubbish”. The Australian actress made the comments about the saga during an interview with The Sun newspaper. Valance played Felicity Scully on the Network Ten programme for three years between 1999 and 2002 and launched her pop-career on the back of her stint in the soap.

Valance made the comments about the series, which was launched by Grundy Television in 1985, after being asked if she would return to the soap. Since leaving Neighbours Valance launched her own pop career scoring three top ten singles and has since moved to America and launched her acting career there appearing in shows such as CSI, Prison Break, Entourage and Moonlight.

Neighbours was created by former ATV executive Reg Watson who had launched Crossroads in the UK in 1964. He returned to his native Australia in 1974 where he joined Grundy Television. Other hit sagas from Watson include Sons and Daughters, Prisoner: Cell Block H and The Young Doctors.

“It’s not great these days. I actually watched it recently and thought it was rubbish. I wouldn’t want to go back in the current state. What would I gain from it? Nothing. It would only interest me if they changed the format.” Holly Valance speaking to The Sun.

The Neighbours cast during one of its more successful eras in the early 1990s.
