Sky to continue Five News

Five NewsIt’s been confirmed that Sky will continue to produce news programmes for terrestrial broadcaster Five.

It’s been confirmed that Sky will continue to provide the news for Channel Five NewsFive but cost-cutting measures is expected to leave to redundancies. Sky will continue to provide news for Five until 2012 but will likely cut staff numbers in order to reduce costs. Sky replaced ITN as the supplier for news on Channel Four in 2004 under a five-year deal and at the time it was reported the deal was worth £35 million. No details of the new agreement, in regards to its worth, has yet emerged.

Last year Five revamped its news bulletins which resulted in its 5pm bulletin nearly doubling its audiences and reaching over a million viewers. As part of the revamp the station tempted over newsreader Natasha Kaplinski from the BBC however, the presenter is currently on maternity leave.
