Ab FabFox has given the green-light for a pilot episode of an American version of British comedy series Absolutely Fabulous. The Network had previously ordered a script for a pilot episode of the series and has now given the project the go ahead to produce a pilot episode. Jennifer Saunders, who wrote and starred in the original British series, will be Executive Producer of the series. The pilot will be set in Los Angeles and will be produced by Sony Pictures TV, BBC Worldwide Productions and Tantamount.

There have been several attempts at developing an American version of the series but none have reached the pilot stage. The British series ran for five seasons and several Christmas Specials and starred Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, Jane Horrocks and June Whitfield. It was developed into a series from a sketch on the French & Saunders show.
