Real Life Drama For ITV’s Heartbeat Crew

Five crew members from the 1960s-based Heartbeat drama have been taken to hospital after an accident while on a location shoot.

The incident happened in the village of Grosmont – near Whitby – in North Yorkshire and involved a tractor.

It’s reported that the tractor rolled down an embankment injuring some of the crew, including a cameraman who some reports state was knocked unconscious, and a guest actor who obtained chest injuries.

The actor was taken by air ambulance to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, while others were taken to hospitals in Scarborough and Whitby.

The Whitby Gazette reports: ‘Heartbeat crew members were reported to have dived out of the way before [the tractor] left the road and overturned rolling over a man operating a camera.’

Yorkshire Television has confirmed that four of the injured have been discharged from hospital.

The drama, which launched in 1992, evolves around the police station and its officers as well as several locations in the fictional village of Aidensfield, the show used to reach over seven million viewers but in recent months less than five million have been tuning in.
