Actresses Cast For Ab Fab Re-Make

Two American actresses have been cast for the US remake of the hit British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. Read on for more.

Crossing Jordan star Kathryn Hahn and Third Rock From The Sun actress Kristen Johnson are to take on the lead roles in the stateside version of Absolutely Fabulous it has been confirmed.

Hahn will play the role of Edina Monsoon portrayed in the UK version of the hit sitcom by comedy favourite Jennifer Saunders while Johnson will take on the role played by the popular Joanna Lumley, Patsy Stone.

Fox greenlit the US version of the show, whose name is expected to be abbreviated to AbFab, last month following months of development.

Saunders will act as executive producer alongside Saturday Night Live writer Christine Zander and Ian Moffitt, BBC Worldwide Productions USA Vice president of programming and content strategy.

Absolutely Fabulous officially started life in the UK on the BBC in 1992, a total of 3 series aired until 1996. The show returned in 2001 and a further two series were made. There has not been any new episodes of the popular sitcom since the fifth series aired in 2003 and as of 2009 there are currently no plans for any. It is not known whether the US remake of the show will retain the original theme tune, a version of “This Wheels On Fire” a song written by Bob Dylan and Rick Danko and recorded for the show by Julie Driscoll and Saunder’s real life spouse Ade Edmonson.
