Lewis has NOT been Axed

Lewis, ITVITV deny they have axed the Inspector Morse spin-off Lewis after an article in The Daily Express newspaper claimed the series was one of several axed by the broadcaster.

Hit shows such as Sharpe and Wire in the Blood will be discarded. Other favourites to be confined to history will include Heartbeat, The Royal and Lewis – the popular spin-off from Inspector Morse – after the network recorded a loss of around £2.7billion last year.” Extract from The Daily Express

Lewis, ITVITV has denied a report in The Daily Express newspaper that it had axed the Inspector Morse spin-off Lewis. An article which covered yesterday’s announcements of job losses, budget cuts and studio closures also reported that Lewis, along with Wire in the Blood, had been axed by the Network. However, while it was confirmed in February that gritty crime series Wire in the Blood had been dropped by ITV the broadcaster said to ATV that Lewis most definitely hadn’t been axed.

“Lewis has NOT been de-commissioned by ITV. It is quite usual for a new series not to have been commissioned at this stage of the year”. – ITV spokesperson speaking to ATV News Network

Lewis stars Kevin Whately reprising his role of Robbie Lewis from the Inspector Morse television series. A pilot episode aired in 2006 and was a hit with viewers and since then there has been two further series’ with a third due to air later this spring. Also amongst the cast are Rebecca Front and Laurence Fox. The series has proved to a ratings winner for ITV.
