BAFTA nomination for EastEnders’ June Brown
EastEnders star June Brown has received her first ever BAFTA nod.
As the legendary Dot Cotton in BBC soap EastEnders.
June has been nominated for best actress at this year’s BAFTA Television Awards. The actress has played chain-smoking moralising Dot Cotton in EastEnders since 1985 and is one of the soap’s best loved characters.
It’s the first time the actress has been recognised by Bafta and also the first time since 1988 that a soap star has been shortlisted for an acting gong at the ceremony when Corrie‘s Jean Alexander was nominated for her role of Hilda Ogden.

June’s nomination for the award is for a ground-breaking episode of the saga which aired in January 2008. She was the only performer to feature in the episode – which was likened to Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads monologue series – as Dot recorded a message for her husband Jim.
Prior to EastEnders June appeared in many television and stage roles, including appearances in Granada’s Coronation Street, LWT’s Oranges and Lemons and several ATV series including Gentle To Nora.
The BAFTA Televison Awards ceremony will be held on April 26th at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank.
