Enders boss praises June Brown
EastEnders boss Diederick Santer has praised June Brown following her BAFTA nomination.
Diederick Santer has headed up the London centric soap since 2006
Santer described the actress as “a truly remarkable and unique talent.”
“This is a fantastic moment for June, made all the more special by the quality of the other nominees. Traditionally it has been almost impossible for our actors to break through into these kinds of awards. June is a truly remarkable and unique talent.”
The Dot Branning star has been nominated for her performance in a special single hander episode back in January last year – the first time anyone from a soap has received a nod since Jean Alexander got the first in 1988.
Prior to EastEnders June appeared in many television and stage roles, including appearances in Granada’s Coronation Street, LWT’s Oranges and Lemons and several ATV series including Gentle To Nora. She has been with the soap since 1985.
“It was a lovely episode to film, thanks to our fantastic director Clive Arnold and wonderful crew. I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity.” – June Brown
Battling it out in the Continuing Drama category, meanwhile, are EastEnders, Casualty, The Bill and Emmerdale. Corrie has been snubbed for a second year running while last year’s winner Holby City has also missed out on a nod.
