Beeb to ‘sex up’ Strictly Come Dancing?

BBC One’s celebrity dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing could be “sexed up” for its next season, The Sun claims.

The tabloid newspaper quotes BBC insiders as saying bosses at the corporation are hoping to copy the success of the show’s American counter-part, Dancing with the Stars, which regularly attracts twenty million viewers.

“No one could ever say Strictly is not a huge hit. We can’t compete with the Americans’ massive budget, but we realise the dancers are younger and sexier. Strictly goes head to head with The X Factor, which has a lot of young viewers. We want to steal some of their 16-23 audience.” – Insider talking to The Sun

According to the paper, bosses on the show are hoping to lure over some of the dancing professionals from the stateside version and will cast contestants to achieve ‘raunchy’ dance routines similar to those performed by Rachel Stevens and Kelly Brook.

The rules of the competition are also set to be revised to prevent a repeat of John Sergeant’s survival in the show and the abandoning of the public vote in last year’s penultimate show which was deemed unfair.
