The return of actor Bernard Cribbins to Doctor Who as his character of Wilf Mott has been confirmed by the show’s Executive Producer Russell T. Davies. The producer and lead writer confirmed Wilf’s return on the BBC Breakfast show following reports and photos in several tabloids. The character first appeared in the 2007 Christmas Special Voyage of the Damned and became a recurring character in the fourth series when he revealed to be the grandfather of companion Donna Noble [Catherine Tate].
According to Davies Wilf will appear in the last two specials of this year and will be in the role of the companion for the episodes – making him the oldest companion to have travelled with the Doctor in the show’s long history. The next special, following on from Easter’s Planet of the Dead, will likely air in November according to Davies.
