However, despite the characters exit from behind the bar at the pub the character will still remain with the soap. According to the newspaper Betty is fired by new barmaid Poppy [Sophiya Haque] after she refuses to swap shifts.
Betty Williams has worked in The Rovers Return since first appearing in the Granada soap in 1969 – forty years ago. Betty’s tenure behind the bar has seen her work under landlords; Annie Walker, Billy Walker, Bet Lynch/Gilroy, Alec Gilroy, Vera and Jack Duckworth, Natalie Evans, Fred Elliot, Douggie Furguson and most recently Liz and Steve McDonald. Betty is most famous for her hot-pots which she’s been dishing up during her entire tenure at the pub but during a dispute with landlord Vera Duckworth she threatened to move to rival pub The Flying Horse.
