Anderson to Guest in Doctor Who? – X-Files Actress tipped to play the Rani
According to several tabloid newspapers The X-Files actress Gillian Anderson has been approached by Doctor Who bosses to guest-star in the SF series.
Another day, another tabloid rumour; The Daily Express is reporting that Doctor Who bosses have approached Gillian Anderson, Agent Scully in The X-Files, to guest-star in the SF series. Several other news sites have picked up on this story and are reporting bosses are hoping to cast Anderson in the rival of villainous Time Lady, The Rani. The Rani appeared in two stories in the original series of Doctor Who and was played by the glamorous Kate O’Mara but it’s not the first time tabloids have tipped the character for a return. Not so long ago the tabloids were reporting The Rani would return but with Footballers Wives’ actress Zoe Lucker in the role!
“Gillian obviously has a massive sci-fi following and it’s felt it would be a major coup to have her appear in Doctor Who. The team behind the show are keen for the next Doctor to have lots of new enemies and Gillian would be a glamorous and impressive addition to the list,” said the insider. It would undoubtedly be regarded as one of those great sci-fi moments if the star of The X-Files gets to clash with The Doctor,” – A “source” talking to The Daily Express
It’s likely that this piece of potential casting news is to do with Season Five of the series and not the remaining specials which will air later this year. Season Five of Doctor Who will be produced by Steven Moffat who has contributed some of the best scripts of New Who so far. It will air in 2010 and will see Matt Smith take over the role of The Doctor.
