Filming on last Heartbeat Episodes Underway

According to tabloid newspaper The Mirror filming for the final episodes of rural cop-drama Heartbeat has begun.

Tabloid newspaper The Mirror is reporting that filming for the final episodes of 60’s based cop-drama Heartbeat is underway. The paper claims that scenes for the final episode have begun shooting on location in the Yorkshire village of Goathland which stands in for the fictional village of Aidensfield in the drama. The paper quotes a source who claims filming has been an emotional experience for the cast with actress Tricia Penrose, who plays Gina Bellamy, being close to tears.

“Tricia, in particular, has found it hard to take as she has been involved for almost all 18 series. There have been lots of tears.” – A source quoted in The Mirror.

Actress Tricia Penrose has played Gina Bellamy in Heartbeat since 1993 appearing in 17 seasons of the rural drama. Heartbeat first started in 1992 with Nick Berry and Niamh Cusack in lead roles although Cusack left the series in 1995 while Berry departed in 1998. Earlier this year ITV announced it was effectively cancelling Heartbeat and its spin-off The Royal due to disappointing ratings and budget cuts. The struggling broadcaster has enough episodes of both drama’s to last until the end of next year when it will decide whether or not to commission new episodes of both dramas. However, many within the industry believe both shows are unlikely to return in their current forms meaning the episodes now being filmed could be the grand finale of Heartbeat.
