The original GaySpy: Bi Weekly – Issue Four
After much persuasion we’ve decided to re-launch our gay spy section as a bi-weekly magazine style round up of the latest news from the LGBT world but as you’ve come to expect from us we don’t just report the news, we comment on it as well. So along with news and views we also have a few other features lined-up for you in this third issue of Bi-Weekly.
Lesbian character for Stargate
The latest Stargate spin-off, Universe, will feature the franchise first gay character. The character of Camille Way is amongst the crew of the ship Destiny which is flung far across the universe. As well as featuring the first gay character in the franchise the new spin-off will also feature the first gay couple as Camille’s girlfriend will also be seen during the course of the series. While Camille is the show’s first openly gay character producers assured fans that the franchise has featured gay characters before they just weren’t detailed as such on-screen. Stargate: Universe launches this autumn.
Home and Away Lesbian Petition
Home and Away fans are petitioning to keep the show’s controversial lesbian couple together. The soap has sparked recent furore after featuring two female characters falling in love with each other. The controversial plot has sparked fierce debate on the soap’s home turf of Australia with conservative groups arguing that it is inappropriate for the soap’s 7pm timeslot. The plot features Summer bay residents Charlie (Esther Anderson) and Joey (Kate Bell) falling for each other. Fans have now begun an online petition to keep the pair together while a facebook group started for the same cause now has over 300 fans.
Miss California Doesn’t Like Gay Marriage
Miss California doesn’t agree with gay marriage and feels marriage should only be between a man and a woman – but do you really give a fuck what the silly bint thinks? Miss California revealed her stance on the controversial topic during the contest to be crowned Miss America when gossip blogger Prez Hilton asked her the question. Miss California recons her answer cost her the Miss America crown – modest ain’t she? Obviously Miss California, a raised Christian, hasn’t heard of Love Thy Neighbour or Turn the Other Cheek, both principles put forward by the bible.
Maybe she doesn’t know that vanity is a deadly sin as well. However, since Miss Tackless made the comments several celebrities have come out in support of gay marriages with Britney Spears and Disney sensation Miley Cyrus amongst them.
Homophobic Row In Apprentice
According to The Sunday Mirror BBC One show The Apprentice has dabbled with homophobic though seemingly it hasn’t caused a big incident. According to the paper the contestants were set the task of giving the seaside town of Margate a new image. Openly gay contestant Howard Ebison suggested turning the sea-resort into a new gay holiday destination, ala Brighton. However, this suggestion was met with resistance and homophobia by fellow contestant Mona Lewis who objected the idea and even said she wouldn’t want her son to meet a gay man.
Mona Lewis was raised in Tanzania which will doubtless be used as an excuse for her homophobic remarks. Imagine if Ebison has said he wouldn’t want to meet an immigrant – they’d be a huge uproar over such a comment.
Robin HoodWho’s Hotter: The Results
Last week we asked you to pick which cast was hotter out of Robin Hood and Primeval. We’ll be honest the photos of both casts didn’t really show them in the best light but that’s not our fault. It was a tough choice and a close run thing but narrowly ahead was Robin Hood. So it seems men in tights with lovely big bows and arrows clearly rocks your boats more than dinosaurs and big runs!
Who’s Hotter: Dante’s Cove Boys
Okay this week we’re back to the more traditional Who’s Hotter and asking you just to pick who is hotter out of our selection – not to pick an entire cast. This week’s fitties are some of the boys from the superb and addictive supernatural gay drama Dante’s Cove. This American season just happens to feature a gorgeous cast who regularly get topless and have lots of hot sex and these scenes are strung together by a lose plot involving witches and the supernatural. All three seasons are on DVD should you wish to buy them – we highly recommend you do. Anyway which of these Dante’s Cove boys is the hottest; it’s a tough one we know but someone has to pick! The Big Question – Is Camp Funny Response
In our last issue we asked you whether or not you felt “camp” was funny or if camp could, sometimes, be offensive. At the moment there is a big debate and media frenzy surrounding the issue and we asked which side of the fence you sat on. Well from the replies we’ve had we’d say most of you felt that camp is funny as long as it’s not meant to be offensive.
Many of you said that as long as the jokes being made aren’t actually meant by the comedian are just in jest then camp can be quite funny. Obviously you felt it was different if the person was deliberately trying to be homophobic and many of you pointed out that Chris Moyles, that “funny” Radio One DJ, recently crossed the line when he mocked Will Young. You felt that was an example of when “going camp” wasn’t funny and was offensive. So folks, there you have it!
The Big Question – Is Ben Fit?
Ben Clarke: Okay this is a question that has divided us in the office so we thought it was the perfect for this week’s Big Question – Is Ben Clarke from The Apprentice fit? Some of us, me included, think that he is. However, there are some in the office who would disagree and don’t like him. But which way do you swing? Do you think he is fit or has his performance so far on The Apprentice put you off him? Email us at:[edit]
