BBC News to axe 90 jobs
The BBC is to axe almost 90 jobs from its news department in order to cut back costs. Most of the job losses are expected to be voluntary redundancies.
The BBC has announced that it’ll be cutting almost 90 jobs from its news department as the corporation tries to cut back costs. The job losses are expected to be voluntary redundancies in most cases and the consultation process will begin almost immediately. The jobs will be gone from the news department by April 2010.
The majority of the job losses will go in the newsgathering area of BBC News with UK and World news gathering particularly hit. However, further job losses will be made in the newsroom itself and from news/political programmes itself.
It’s not the first time the BBC has trimmed back staff in its news department. The corporation recently restructured its news into one combined department which meant over 300 jobs were lost.
