Richard and Judy Chatshow to End

It has been announced that Richard and Judy’s UKTV Watch show will end in the summer after the pair conceded the show had failed.

The show had originally been scheduled to run up until December however a break clause in the contract has enabled producer Cactus TV and the pair to pull out of the show early. The final episode will transmit on Friday 3rd July.

The move follows disappointing ratings for the show which fell to as low as 53,000 viewers by the show’s second episode and reportedly the decline didn’t stop there. One episode reportedly pulled in only 5,000 viewers.

For many years husband and wife presenting duo Richard and Judy fronted ITV’s anchor morning magazine show This Morning before defecting to Channel Four in 2001 where they presented teatime chatshow Richard and Judy. They left the broadcaster last year and entered into a contract with UKTV to front a new show Richard and Judy’s New Position which debuted last October.

In a statement, the pair said the show had been “a bridge too far, too soon. Some you win, some you lose.”

We rather think that’s putting it mildly and playing down the show’s misfortune – after all to fall under 10,000 viewers makes this possibly one of the biggest flops in UK Television history.
