I’ll Pass Sweetie – Fox Not Keen on Ab Fab
The latest proposed remake of Jennifer Saunders penned comedy Absolutely Fabulous has hit hard times as broadcaster Fox decides to pass on commissioning it.
The proposed American remake of Absolutely Fabulous looks doubtful to take off now after American broadcaster Fox has decided to pass on it. The project is the latest of several proposed remakes over the years of the Jennifer Saunder’s penned series. Fox had ordered a pilot for the series earlier this year and a full series would have starred actress’ Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Johnson in the roles of Patsy and Edina.
The American remake was being overseen by Mitch Hurwitz, creator of Arrested Development, and Eric and Kim Tannerbaum while Saunders herself was to be an executive producer on the series. It’s unknown why Fox has decided not to commission a full series and whether the project will seek a new potential broadcaster.
In the United Kingdom Absolutely Fabulous ran originally between 1992 and 1995 with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley playing Edina and Patsy respectively. Patsy Stone became something of a gay icon and the series was a huge hit with audiences. Saunders decided to end the series after three years and a two-part special was written to tie-up the loose ends. However, in 2001 it was revived for two more seasons and several specials ending once more in 2005.
