Foyle’s War to be axed – again?
The writer and creator ITV drama Foyle’s War is convinced that the series could be axed – again – as ITV looks for ways to cut back costs.
Anthony Horowitz, the creator of Foyle’s War, fears his drama series could be ditched by ITV once again. The series stars Michael Kitchen as Christopher Foyle, a cop who investigates crime against the backdrop of World War Two. The series was hugely popular with audiences and pulled in strong audiences but despite this it was cancelled by outgoing boss Simon Shaps in 2007. The axe came as a shock to fans who protested and in 2008 ITV relented and agreed to revive the series – with new investigations featuring Foyle taking place in the aftermath of the war. However, while filming has begun on new episodes Anthony Horowitz fears ITV could axe the series once more.
“We start shooting the third and possibly last episode tomorrow. TV drama is getting more and more difficult as nobody has enough money to make it any more.” – Horowitz writing on his blog, quoted in The Sun.
ITV are looking for ways to cut back on costs and they have already axed Wire in the Blood, Heartbeat and The Royal and other programmes are also likely to be cancelled by ITV. Long-running David Jason drama series Inspector Frost will conclude this year after 17 years and over 40 episodes. An ITV spokesperson told The Sun that no decisions had been taken on the future of Foyle’s War.
