Mixed fortunes for CBS soaps
As The World Turns facing cancellation while The Young and the Restless given two more years – but at a price.
The future of CBS daytime soap As The World Turns is in doubt but fellow soap The Young And The Restless has just been re-commissioned by the broadcaster for a further two years. Declining ratings have been plaguing most daytime soaps for several years now and CBS announced earlier this year it was cancelling The Guiding Light for such reasons. The longest running soap in the world, 72 years old, was cancelled by CBS are a high profile revamp failed to lift flagging ratings.
It now looks like CBS could be about to axe another of its soaps, As The World Turns. CBS has admitted it’s yet to make a decision on the future of the daytime soap and declining ratings may seal its future. Meanwhile the broadcaster announced it had given fellow soap The Young and the Restless another two years on air but it comes at a cost – budget cuts. The soap will have to reign in costs which could mean axing some of its cast.
