Another Corrie Character to return?
Tabloid newspaper The Sun claims that singer turned actor Keith Duffy is in talks with Coronation Street over a possible return to the ITV soap. Duffy played barman Ciaran McCarty for two years until he quit the soap in 2005.
The Sun claims that singer turned actor Keith Duffy has met with producers of Coronation Street over reprising his role on the ITV soap. According to the paper the actor has been offered a six months contract to return to the Granada soap and play Ciaran McCarty once more. Bosses hope to tie in his return with a storyline involving Peter Barlow’s plans to open a rival pub to The Rovers Return. Duffy has always stated he’s open to a return to Coronation Street and ITV have confirmed the actor has been approached to return.
Ciaran might have only had a two year stint on the cobbles of Weatherfield the first time around but they were certainly eventful. He briefly dated Sunita [Shobna Gulati] but Sunita was in love with Corner Shop owner Dev which proved to be a very costly relationship for her. Suinita and Dev got together scorning Dev’s ex lover Maya and hell hath no fury like a mad-woman scorned. Maya blew up Dev’s Corner Shop Empire and then blew up the Corner Shop but luckily for Sunita and Dev they were rescued seconds beforehand by neighbours, including Ciaran and builder Charlie Stubbs. Ciaran left Weatherfield after he could no longer stand by and watch Charlie’s mental abuse of Rovers landlady Shelley.
If Duffy does return to the cobbles he won’t be the only familiar face returning to the ITV soap. Shobna Gulati is due to reprise her role in the soap later this year while the character of Nick Tinsley will also be back once more all be it with a brand new face. It’s also been suggested in the press that actress Tina O’Brien, who played Sarah Louise Platt, may also return to the soap.
