Waterloo Road actress lands Sky chat-show
Angela Griffin has landed her own daytime chat-show on Sky One. The actress is probably best known for her roles on Waterloo Road, Cutting It and Coronation Street as well as a multitude of other roles.
Actress Angela Griffin is to turn her hand to presenting for a new daytime chat-show on Sky One. The actress currently appears in BBC One drama Waterloo Road as teacher Kim Campbell as is expected to be part of the drama’s fifth series which will return soon to BBC One. The actress also had starring roles in Holby City, Cutting It, Down to Earth, Babyfather and Granada soap Coronation Street. Griffin will front the new show, Angela and Friends, from this November.
Angela and Friends will be co-presented by three other presenters alongside Griffin and will cover life style issues and trends, showbiz news, viewer comments, special features and also guest stars. It will also cover books, film, health, beauty and fashion. Sky has commissioned 90 episodes of the chat-show which will each run for 90 minutes and marks a new step in direction for the digital broadcaster.
“Angela is exactly where I want Sky1 HD to be. She’s smart, funny, beautiful and has effortless style. She’s also a huge young mainstream star, loved in Corrie, Waterloo Road, Down to Earth and Holby. This show is a real departure for both her and us. This is the start of our strategy to focus significant money on one or two key daytime slots, and promote them heavily. It was key that we worked with producers who completely understand daytime and working with Crackit is a total joy.” – Stuart Murphy, Director of Programmes, Sky1 HD, Sky1, Sky2 and Sky3.
As well as broadcasting on Sky One the topical chat-show will also air on the Sky HD channel. The Sky press release promises that a wide range of celebs will be joining the actress to keep the show fresh and relevant. Griffin isn’t the first soap star to turn her hand towards presenting with former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney fronting a number of factual shows for various broadcasters including ITV. Coronation Street actors Bradley Walsh and Anthony Cotton also landed their own chat-shows on ITV but while Cotton’s did make it to air Walsh’s show didn’t make it past the pilot stage. Another Coronation Street star to land their own show was Julie Goodyear who played legendary Rovers barmaid and landlady Bet Lynch in the Granada soap but her show wasn’t successful either.
“I’m thrilled to have been given the opportunity to develop another side of my career and work with such a dynamic team. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I can’t wait to get started – I’m dead dead excited!” – Angela Griffin
Angela and Friends will launch on Sky One, and the Sky HD Channel, in November. We will bring you more details closure to the time.
