American broadcaster CBS will launch six new branded channels in the UK later this year. It’s international arm has struck a joint venture deal with multi-channel operator Chellomedia. The deal means the six channels will replace the ‘Zone’ group of channels; Zone Romantica, Zone Thriller, Zone Horror and Zone Reality plus the time-shift channels for Reality and Horror. The ‘Zone’ channels are probably mostly unknown to the vast majority of UK viewers and have previously shown US exports such as Vampire High, The Young and the Restless, Days of our Lives, The Guiding Light and repeats of Falcon Crest.
The new names for the channels has yet to be revealed but under the deal they will air CBS programming ranging from drama, reality and soaps so Dynasty and Star Trek could well feature on the new channels. It’s also entirely possible that some popular programming airing on the ‘Zone’ channels will continue on the new ones.
