From The Tudors to the Borgia’s

ShowtimeFrom The Tudors to the Borgia’s, American broadcaster Showtime eyes up the notorious Italian Renaissance clan for new drama series.

The broadcasters of The Tudors, Showtime are hoping to follow up the Showtimehistorical romp with a new drama series focusing on another infamous dynasty from history – the Borgia’s. The Italian family lived during the renaissance and are one of the more notable families from the era for their murderous and criminal ways.  The Tudors will bow out next year after four seasons once the story of Henry VIII and his six wives has been concluded and Showtime exec’s are looking for another drama series to capitalise on the success of the Tudors and the Borgia’s seem like the ideal family.

Writer Neil Jordan has reportedly written a script and a ‘series bible’ which Showtime is said to be seriously considering. If the series was given the green-light it would be made by DreamWorksTV and Image Movers. If the project was given the green-light it wouldn’t be the first drama series to focus on the notorious family. In 1981 the BBC aired a drama on the family which was a ratings and critically failure with its graphic violence and nudity failing to warm viewers.
